She founded Webworks in 1987, sponsoring workshops and events on progressive ideas, and continues to play on the edge of discovery as the Executive Producer and Host of Internet Radio.

Her innovation to raise awareness began in West Des Moines, IA where she initiated the first Fine Arts Week in the city’s history when teaching at Valley High School. Smitha went on to teach at Corning School of Allied Arts in Seattle, Edmonds and Shoreline Colleges, Seattle Pacific University, and as an education supervisor at St. Martin's University.
Elaine authored the first self-healing handbook based on the new biology: If You Make The Rules, How Come You’re Not Boss? Minding Your Body’s Business. Collector’s Edition 2003, 2nd Edition, Hampton Roads Publishing. 2004.
